A Trail Runner's Blog: Understanding the Runner's High

I was doing some research online to try and find other peoples experience with "Runners High." I found this guy's blog with lots of research in it. I found it interesting, and the comments as well. You guys might find it interesting. Another reason to push forward into the longer distances.

TRACK WORKOUT WEDS!

Here is what is on the menu if you are interested in coming to the Track this Weds.

WEDS. 6/28
This week I would like to work on pace.I thought we would start with a 8 minute run, then rest 1-2 minutes, thenrun 4 minutes, rest, then 4 minutes again. This should give you anopportunity to recover a little. So don't blast the first 8 minutes, try toconserve some energy so that the 4 minute runs are tolerable. If you ran1600 meters in the first 8 minutes, see how close you can come to 800 meters or more for the 4 minute runs. Try to start at one of the 4 100 meter startlines for easier calculations. Grab some water if you need it by planningwhere and when you need it.Then after a break I would like to do something similar. It may be shorterdistances. Probably 6,3,3 with a minute rest betweeen. The weather maydictate the time periods.

TUES. NIGHT 6/27

Was thinking about possible routes for tomorrow. Our books say we have a 35min jog for this week so what I was thinking we can keep the same route as last week since it was challenging, and everyone did a great job at it! Possible continue around the track again "our first route" at a run walk pace to get our mileage up a lil, and have a nice long cool down! That is just a thought since it is a route everyone is familiar with and lets just hope it is not as hot out tomorrow as last week. If it is rather warm like most days try to bring a water bottle with ya to stay hydrated!! I know some people hate drinking while running, but a major key to any kind of endurance sport is keeping your body hydrated!! and if you wanna be a fruitloop you can bring along some fruit! Another random thought is I was thinking maybe once we get up past our half way mark or maybe after we have out mileage up close to the 10k distance we could try to do some kind of mini social on a weekend or something. Just kinda kick back and relax a lil... Just a thought we can discuss down the road!! Well I will see ya all tomorrow and keep up the good work you are DOING GREAT!!! GO "S3"

SIDE NOTE: I will be at Washington Park tonight at 5pm up by the playground if anyone wants to join me!
